Why we love it: French luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton is launching a beauty collection.
Called La Beauté Louis Vuitton, the release will build upon the brand’s offering that includes accessories, ready to wear, jewelry, fragrance and more. The collection is set to launch this autumn.
“La Beauté Louis Vuitton is a natural business evolution, driven by our meticulous attention to quality, formula and innovation,” Pietro Beccari, chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, said in a news release.
British makeup artist Dame Pat McGrath has been named creative director for cosmetics at Louis Vuitton. She brings with her a lengthy expertise in the industry, including celebrity makeup artist and the creator of her own makeup brand.
“Working backstage for over 20 years at Louis Vuitton fashion shows, I am thrilled to now play such a key role in the launch of La Beauté Louis Vuitton, which is the result of extraordinary craftsmanship, creativity and innovation,” McGrath said. “The beauty universe is about so much more than just product, and what we are creating here will unlock a new level in luxury beauty.”
While a “new universe” for the brand, according to Beccari, Louis Vuitton has created some beauty products in the past.
Beauty accoutrements such as powder compacts, mirrors and brushes were first introduced into its offering into the 1920s, a complement to the monogram travel and vanity cases Louis Vuitton had long been known for.
The expansion into the booming business category doesn’t come as a surprise to fashion fans.
