Police are investigating a nearby shooting and are warning drivers the lane closure could continue through the Monday morning commute
A section of the westbound slow lane on Highway 1 in Burnaby was closed on Sunday night — and the RCMP is warning drivers the closure could continue through the Monday morning commute.
“The injured victim, who appears to have been living in the wooded area, was located and taken to the hospital, where he is continuing to undergo treatment,” said an RCMP spokesperson in a statement.
“While the victim’s injuries appear serious, he is in stable condition.”
Police say that while the off-ramp can still accessible, the lane closure is expected to continue overnight and is likely to affect the morning commute. Police are asking drivers to plan an alternate route or leave early to account for the delays. If still travelling on Highway 1, police are asking drivers to slow down in the area as there will be investigators working near the highway.
A motive for the shooting has not been determined but police said “it is believed to be an isolated incident.”
Witnesses and anyone with information is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
