Sky Sports and ITV cameras captured Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer’s rollercoaster of emotions as his hometown club ended their 70-year trophy drought against on Sunday. “About 15 minutes ago, I texted him, ‘Are you calm?’ I can’t tell you what he replied; it will have us taken off the air.”

He penned: “Toon Toon arrrmyyyyyyyyy. Ah, man. Did the Geordies deserve that, or what? That was f***ing amazing.”

“I am very, very emotional and have been all day, which is unlike me,” Howe explained as the dust was settling.
