While many think of Crete as hottest place, a much smaller island just off Greece’s mainland soars a couple of degrees hotter during summer to a blinding daily average of 32C. During April, however, a balmy 19C awaits, with a refreshing coastal breeze, warm spring nights and something unheard of in the UK – endless blue skies.
You don’t need to worry too much about either as the island starts to head towards the dry season – but for the best weather, push your trip towards the end of the month. , with its rugged coastal walks, fresh seafood and stunning bays, makes the for those looking to kick back and take in the slow island life.

Even though Corfu is blessed with , for a particularly memorable one, head to the northwest coast where you can park up and take a 20-minute stroll down the sandy track lined with trees to be rewarded by the crystal waters of Porto Timoni.
While in the north, head to the east coast to find of Agni Bay. It is an ideal place to really experience island life – head here if you’re looking for relaxing seafront tavernas, and coastal views.
For those who like a little more on the itinerary, is the obvious choice, with its pretty stone buildings and winding streets, where you can try to spot any remaining Venetian houses.
The British-built columned church of Kerkyra (Corfu city) is a must-see, originally built for the religious needs of British soldiers in Corfu, and there are now concerts held inside during certain times of the year.

One of the most iconic spots on Corfu is the Vlacherna Monastery which sits just out to sea, although nowadays it can be reached on foot by a small track over the water – once inside you can imagine the life of nuns who lived here in sheer peace and quiet.
For , try lamb stuffed inside a traditional Gyros, plenty of fresh seafood of course with lashings of olive oil, or when your sweet tooth calls, the traditional Sicomada cake made with figs, almonds, oranges and ouzo packs a punch.
