‘s Claire Sweeney has attempted to justify her character’s villainous actions as she plots to “bump off” Ken Barlow.

Ex-drug addict Cassie Plummer, portrayed by Claire Sweeney, has been causing havoc since her arrival in Weatherfield and is once again up to no good.

Cassie has been caring for Ken Barlow (played by William Roach) after he had a fall, with the two becoming close friends recently.

However, unbeknownst to Ken, Cassie plans to swindle the pensioner out of his money and has begun adding crushed tablets to his drinks.

Claire appeared on Alan Titchmarsh’s Love Your Weekend on Sunday, March 16th, where she tried to explain Cassie’s actions.

After a clip from the popular ITV drama was shown, Alan commented: “Little does he [Ken] know what’s in his cup!”

She responded: “I know, I’m the smiling assassin there, aren’t I? I mean, Ken Barlow, a national treasure!

“And you to bump him off Claire,” Alan noted before the 53-year-old actress began her attempt to rationalise the storyline.

“Well, do you know what, I mean, you can’t soften it can you when you’re spiking a national treasure’s cup of tea.

“But that was a tablet there and then I go on to [use] antihistamines with him.”

Alan reacted with surprise as Claire continued: “So it’s just really to keep him a little bit sleepy so he needs me. That’s what it is.”

The host chuckled and slid his cup away from Sweeney, quipping: “I’m just going to put my tea out of your way!”

Towards the close of their chat, Alan couldn’t help but slyly probe Claire for any insider knowledge on what fate lies ahead for Ken, saying: “I don’t know whether you’ll be bumping anybody else off or succeed in bumping Ken and I don’t suppose you know either and if you did, you wouldn’t tell me would you?”

But fans were left in suspense as the actress confessed: “I don’t know. Surprise a minute isn’t it?”

Is it curtains for Ken, or will Claire’s schemes unravel, forcing her to face the consequences?
