Emmerdale’s Katie Hill, known for her portrayal of Sarah Sugden in the popular ITV soap, has been captivating audiences since 2017. At just 22, she is the fifth actress to take on the role of Debbie Dingle and Andy Sugden’s daughter.
Katie made her television debut with , having previously graced the stage in theatre and musical roles. Over the years, she has been at the centre of numerous dramatic storylines.
In a recent shocking twist, her character Sarah was left devastated after mistakenly believing she was pregnant. Following her turbulent relationship with Jacob Gallagher, Sarah took a pregnancy test which showed a positive result.
After confiding in her grandmother , Sarah intended to tell Jacob, but he ended their relationship abruptly while grieving his mother Leyla Harding’s death in a limousine crash.
Meanwhile, Dr Manpreet Sharma performed additional tests to confirm Sarah’s pregnancy. However, in a heartbreaking revelation, Manpreet disclosed that Sarah was not actually pregnant. Manpreet suggested that Sarah’s medication could have affected the test result or that she may have misinterpreted the results. Despite the ongoing drama in the village, Katie leads a much quieter life off-screen.

Katie’s unknown singing career
Katie Hill, famed for her role in , has wowed fans with her musical prowess, showcasing a stunning rendition of Almost is Never Enough by Ariana Grande and Nathan Sykes on the soap’s YouTube channel.
The talented actress didn’t stop there; she took to to share more covers and, in 2024, delighted followers with her debut single, Bitter Sweet.
Her colleagues were quick to offer their congratulations, with Daisy Campbell, who plays Amelia Spencer, commenting: “Yayy so proud of you” alongside a heart emoji. Lawrence Robb, known as Mackenzie Boyd on the show, praised her work: “The song is gorgeous! Well done!” adding heart emojis to his message.

Katie’s future on the show
Discussing her eight-year tenure on , Katie reflected on her character Sarah Sugden’s journey, particularly embracing her Dingle heritage. She teased fans with what’s to come: “You’ll see a lot more of that this year and doing fun things like that is what I enjoy the most. I’ve enjoyed all the stuff you’re going to see this year.”
Sarah Sugden’s storyline will evolve as she forms a bond with the new character Kammy, who makes a memorable debut by swiping a quad bike from Moira’s farm.
Katie, gushing about her latest co-star, revealed: “I can’t wait for the audience to meet Kammy – he’s a really fun character and a great addition to the village.
“We might even see him and Sarah get up to a bit of mischief together… It has been great having Shebz join the cast and he’s been brilliant to work with!”
