Two plants Alan Titchmarsh ‘hates’ as he issues warning to Brits

Beloved journalist and presenter is known for his passion for gardening, but it turns out that the TV icon isn’t a big fan of two plants. The 75-year-old is best known for his work on Love Your Garden, , Ground Force, and Secrets of The National Trust.

English horticulturist Simon opened up about the revelation on his official account, with a video titled: and revealed that the English broadcaster dislikes Pepus Grass and Gladiola. He explained: “It [Pepus Gras] originates in the area of the Pampus region of South America. He absolutely hates it – and the reason why is because it looks like a bunch of feather dusters sticking up in the air. I’ll be honest – I don’t mind them at all. You can’t put it in a small garden as it gets way too big.”

Simon then adds: “Alan also doesn’t like the large flowering Gladiola. He thinks they’re pretentious and blousy – and they don’t warrant a place in his garden, and that’s fine. Everyone has their own opinion. I don’t mind them.”

In the comments, one person said, “Absolutely agree with the Titchmarsh on pampas grass. It’s scraggly and slicy and has no value as wildlife habitat in Australia, except as an impenetrable home-base for many, many venous snakes; and then for hundreds of introduced rats in the Winter when the snakes are dormant. It’s loathsome stuff.”

Alan also , which has been criticised for its environmental impact. The star said to The Times: “There is a simple solution to avoiding injury when removing the stone from an avocado: don’t eat them. Most of those sold in the UK are grown where the rainforest has been felled at an alarming rate to accommodate them.”

He later continued that his guilty pleasure is non-other than : “I’m not a reality man. There’s an exception: , because it’s people learning a skill. But I don’t tune in at the beginning, I can’t cope with 16 couples. I start at 10.

“But I do enjoy it. I married a dancer so I quite like dancing. And I think the standards they reached this year were astonishing. Occasionally, I sit down with my youngest daughter and watch America’s Next Top Model. I shout at them because they’re such a miserable bunch of ingrates, and she complains about what they’re wearing. We thoroughly enjoy that!”
