presenter has set the record straight about a part of the show, he says, many viewers believe is set up for entertainment.

Fronting the show since its beginning in 2009, Bradley has had his fair share of humorous moments when it comes to questions catching him off guard.

The 64-year-old says despite many believing that he already knows what questions are coming for the contestants, this isn’t the case.

“I don’t pre-read them, I do it as it is, I literally play the game,” he shared. “If I get a reaction, then it’s much better.”

One of Bradley’s most memorable moments is when a question about German skier Fanny Chmelar left him in hysterics.

Last year, he was hilariously confronted by the 39-year-old who told him he had mispronounced her name, on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show.

Speaking on Laura Hamilton’s Mile Fly Club podcast in January, he said of the viral moment: “I’ll read what’s on the autocue and half the time, I don’t realise what I’ve said.

“And it’s not until afterwards it dawns on me, so for instance, the Fanny Chmelar moment has [become] quite iconic.

“And people, still today, think I’m corpsing deliberately but I’m not, that’s actually me laughing, I had no idea that was [coming] up.”

Bradley says following that moment, the show’s question setters have tried to “catch” him out again.

“They used to have bets [on] who would be able to catch me out, so [there’s] plenty of moments on The Chase,” he added.

The presenter addressed the speculation about The Chase around the same time his new show Bradley Walsh: Egypt’s Cosmic Code was announced.

Sky History’s three-part documentary series shows the presenter fulfilling his lifetime’s ambition to visit the monuments of Ancient Egypt and try to uncover the history of the “wonders of the ancient world”.

Following the announcement of his new role, Bradley traded at 4/6 to depart the show amid a rise of uncertainty regarding his future, according to betideas.com.

A spokesperson said: “Should Walsh depart the programme, the most eye-catching name in the betting to replace him is his son Barney, who is 5/1 to step into his father’s shoes in the ITV series.

“Stephen Mulhern is the market favourite at 2/1 to become the show’s next presenter, with Roman Kemp (5/1) also in the running.”

The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV and ITVX. Gladiators airs tonight at 7pm on One.
