Julian Alvarez’s agent has confirmed that were interested in signing him from last summer, before he joined . He continues to be linked with a move to Merseyside at the end of the season, with the Reds facing the possibility of losing two forwards in the summer.
looks set to depart on a free transfer unless there is a breakthrough in contract talks over the coming weeks. Darwin Nunez has also been tipped to leave Anfield after struggling to make the most of his potential. It suggests could delve into the summer market to strengthen their forward line ahead of next season.

They were credited with an interest in Alvarez last summer, when it became clear that he was going to leave the Etihad Stadium. He ended up joining Atletico Madrid, where he has scored 22 goals in all competitions while also chipping in with five assists.
The player’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, has confirmed that were seriously keen on signing Alvarez a year ago but stopped short of disclosing whether a move could be resurrected in the summer.
Speaking to , he said: “I confirm that were interested in Julian last season. As for the future, this is not the right time to talk about it as Julian is competing in important tournaments and is fully focused on them.”

It remains to be seen if will go back in for Alvarez at the end of the season. Talks were held with last year, according to , with sporting director Richard Hughes also speaking to the player’s representatives.
No agreement was found, though, with insisting that any deal would involve Luis Diaz heading the other way in addition to a significant fee. In the end, Atletico Madrid agreed to pay an initial £65million with a further £17m in add-ons.
The report adds that still view Alvarez as the ideal signing in attack, given his work rate and ability to play in multiple roles. It has been speculated that Nunez could be included as a makeweight, with Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone a keen admirer.
Only time will tell if a deal can be agreed to bring Alvarez to at the second time of asking. They could increase the likelihood of a successful move by winning the Premier League title, which looks like a formality at this stage with the Reds comfortably ahead of their rivals.
