Fans of the accomplished actor Stephen Graham are singing his praises for his outstanding performance in the new miniseries, Adolescence.

Viewers say the show solidified his reputation as a great actor, with the 51-year-old – who not only stars as Eddie Miller, but also created and executive produced the four-part series – receiving widespread acclaim online.

Many are hailing him as one of the finest working actors today, thanks to his impressive portrayal in Adolescence, as well as his notable roles in The Irishman and This is England.

Graham, a nominee, is no stranger to high praise, but this most recent performance has taken social media by storm.

Fans of the show have taken to X to express their admiration, with one user writing: “Finished Adolescence, what an incredible show. We genuinely do not talk enough about the greatness of Stephen Graham. This final scene had me bawling.”

Others have echoed this sentiment, praising Graham’s moving performance. One fan commented: “About as close to perfection within the medium of British drama you’re ever going to get.

“Sensational. Stephen Graham… cmon… no words for this moving a performance. F**k. Owen Cooper, 15-years-old and a debut holding your own like THAT!? Serious piece of work.”

A third fan added: “Adolescence is absolutely astounding. This might be Stephen Graham’s best work yet, and newcomer Owen Cooper completely holds his own. It’s a tough but incredibly important drama, shot to perfection.”

Graham has lavished praise on his young co-star Owen Cooper, likening him to “the next Robert De Niro” during an appearance alongside the iconic actor himself.

Adding to the acclaim, Newsnight’s own Victoria Derbyshire couldn’t hold back as she took to social media. She wrote: “The teenage actor who plays Jamie in Adolescence is absolutely outstanding. He’s called Owen Cooper and he’s 15. Incredible. Everyone is brilliant in it – Stephen Graham SUPERB.”

Many are now clamouring for Graham to receive accolades for his riveting role on the series, with a history of recognitions under his belt for performances in ‘Help’ and ‘Time’.

The Broadcasting Press Guild Awards previously celebrated his portrayal in the -19 themed drama ‘Help’, and the intense Sean Bean-led ‘Time’ with a Best Actor award.

Social media buzzed with comments such as one user’s insistence: “Jesus, they should show the first episode of Adolescence to secondary school kids. It’s grim and frightening, but might be a good deterrent. Also, give Stephen Graham all the awards.”

And another fan praised: “Adolescence on is really good. Great cast but Stephen Graham is just next level.” A third joined in, suggesting the gripping drama deserves a spot in educational syllabi for its profound message and excellence.

They wrote: “This is going to stay with me for a very long time. Episode 3, in particular. Incredible writing from Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne. A directing and acting masterclass. Smack it on the national curriculum, @UKLabour. Give them all the awards.”
