At 63, Boyle captured hearts with her stunning audition in 2009 and charmed her way to the show’s final. Although dance troupe Diversity ultimately took the crown that season, she didn’t walk away empty-handed.

Her rise to fame has amassed an incredible £22million fortune. Yet, contrary to expectations of indulging in extravagant new digs, Susan has instead chosen to lavish love on her childhood council house in West Lothian, Scotland, where she spent over six decades.

In a heartfelt explanation to OK! Magazine, Susan shared her sentiments on why she treasures her roots: “It’s to do with the memories of your house and your upbringing, you need to take stock of things and maybe see where you come from and where your roots lie. It’s best to be grounded and with your roots. It keeps you grounded and prevents you from saying things maybe you shouldn’t say.”, reports The Mirror.

The star also shared a personal touch with the publication, revealing the history behind her dressing room: “Three sisters used to sleep in what is now my dressing room. Bridie, Cathy and myself. Mary had gotten married and left the nest long ago. So when they all left I was left with this room. This used to be my room.”

Post-renovation, the space is adorned with an array of costume jewellery and high-end clothing, including a luxurious fur coat—one of her significant purchases. The 2022 revamp came at a time when Susan felt she was “beginning to lose things”.

In a conversation with the Edinburgh Evening News, she revealed: “The house has been needing doing up for some time, I was beginning to lose things in it. I’ve had the kitchen done, the living room papered, the floors done and a summerhouse put out the back.”

She affectionately referred to her property as a “wee retreat” for herself, adding: “It will be a wee retreat for me, although I haven’t used it yet, with all the rain. It makes the place look bigger and more homely.”
