Katherine Ryan hits out at ‘woke’ culture after brutal Meghan Markle show dig

has claimed that audiences are turning away from ‘woke’ culture, arguing that people are fed up with what she calls the ‘peoplekind’ mentality. The outspoken comedian, 41, also criticised former Canadian Prime Minister , who popularised the term ‘peoplekind’ as a gender-neutral alternative to ‘mankind.’ Ryan suggested that comedy fans are craving more daring and less politically correct humor these days.

Speaking on Times Radio, she said: “I think that audiences have really turned on the woke movement. It is really nice to be awakened to issues in society and to be motivated towards social justice and you don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. I don’t think any comedian sets out to be hurtful or hateful or spiteful at all because that’s not funny but certainly after having done a little stint in Canada under our c-minus Obama Justin Trudeau over there…”

She continued: “They are revolting over there, they are really up for some edgy comedy, they are so tired of the ‘peoplekind’ mentality over there and I think it’s the pendulum effect and it’s going to start happening everywhere.”

Ryan’s latest comments come as she also revisits her past support for . While she had previously defended the Duchess of Sussex, she now admits to having second thoughts after Markle’s controversial series .

The comedian admitted: “I liked . I was rooting for … though she is very – even for me – and I don’t like that in people.”

But she counteracted that, adding: “I see now, and maybe it’s just the projects she’s choosing, it does feel like she has lied about whether she knew who was, and these details about her childhood change and don’t add up.”

Ryan had once praised Markle for breaking traditions, and in 2022 said: “I love ’s voice and her confidence to challenge the norm and what’s expected of her in that role.” However, she has now expressed skepticism about Markle’s authenticity, pointing out inconsistencies in her statements.

On her Telling Everybody Everything podcast, Ryan pointed out: “She said on her new show that they ate TV dinners growing up. But then in an old interview, she was like, ‘we would eat farm fresh.’ Her whole act just seems very manicured and very forced.”

Ryan, has multiple stand-up specials including Glitter Room and In Trouble. The comedian has also starred in the short-lived sitcom The Duchess, which was canceled after one season. She previously stated on Vicky Pattison’s podcast that “not enough people watched it”.
