Lewis Hamilton recalled a comical interaction he once had with the late over lunch. The seven-time world champion has had several interactions with the over the years, and he’s a big advocate of and .
The 40-year-old driver, who has swapped the silver of for iconic red for , was in 2009 after claiming his first Drivers’ Championship. He went on the rack up the titles after leaving for the Silver Arrows, leading to him being in 2021. Hamilton was invited to lunch with the late Queen – whose golden rule he sheepishly admitted to breaking.

Speaking to TV host Graham Norton in 2015, Hamilton recalled the hilarious faux pas: “I got invited to a lunch and was sitting next to the Queen. I was excited and started to talk to her.
“But, she said – pointing to my left – ‘No, you speak that way first, and I’ll speak this way, and then I’ll come back to you. She is a sweet woman. And we talked about how she spends her weekends, houses and music.”
Aside from the much-beloved monarch, who passed away in September 2022, Hamilton has also voiced his support and affection for her grandson, , and his wife .
In 2018, after her wedding to the Duke, Hamilton made his admiration for the Duchess clear and put forward a glowing review of their wedding and the diversity brought to the royal family by Markle – who, along with Harry, stepped down from being a senior working member of the Royal Family in 2020.

“I watched here at the weekend just with a smile on my face the whole time,” Hamilton stated, touching on the wedding. “It was great to see such a positive change. It was great to see how happy they both were. It was just a really proud day for the world and it’s always great to see positivity and change.
“The fact you do have diversity in the Royal Family today is a huge thing. People probably don’t realise how important that is. Even to see at the church you had a mixture with the ministers, in the music, in the choir, it was just really beautiful to see.
“So I just had the greatest weekend ever just sitting there watching, seeing talented people play music and seeing them speak and then just to see this power couple walk out.
“It was the greatest wedding I’ve ever seen – and I’m not big on weddings at all. I avoid them at all costs. But this was one. I wish I was actually in England to have seen it.”
