Iconic designer has shared his real feelings on – stating that he “doesn’t buy” her ideology of the “perfect home”. The star explained that they both have very different ways of doing things – with Stacey opting for more neutral colours such as beige and grey, while Laurence enjoys the more vibrant and bolder things in life.
It comes as he is due to appear at the . He exclusively told : “I’m very, very proud of the association that I have always had with the Ideal Home Show, which goes back a long way.” He added: “I’ve come up with my own installation of the home of the future, which is celebrating 25 years of brand LLB. The TV personality continued: “I feel very strongly that, at 60, my generation should not be being pushed into the beige. And of course, the Ideal Home Show is the perfect forum for that. I want people to feel that there’s something for everyone, but particularly granny. I want granny to feel a part of the sexy upswing of interior design.”
Speaking about the recent trend of everything being beige, Laurence said: “I think for a while designers have been trying to convince people that containing their clutter and redacting the way that they live will make it better, but I don’t agree with that at all. I think people should be allowed to be as expressive and as crazy as they possibly can be.”
He added: “One of the important things at the moment is to just look at the outside world, look at the way the world is going. It is a very, very scary place and I think that the only little part of life where you have a degree of control and expression that no one else is going to have an opinion on is where you live.”
The conversation then turned to Sort Your Life Out star, Stacey Solomon, who regularly helps people declutter their homes and often showcases her “beige” Pickle Cottage home on . Laurence said: “What she does is creates this idea that there is one way of doing things, which is the right way of doing it, and the style that she suggests is the only way is clutter free and very pale and grey.

“I don’t buy any of that. I’d like to drive a tractor through that kind of idea. I think that she is a very sweet girl and I think that what she does reflects who she is but I don’t think that works when she then imposes that on other people.”
He added that presenting Changing Rooms was to help people “be more expressive with thier own sense of style”. He added: “That’s a state of grace, that’s exactly where we should all be. We should not be feeling that we should have to be living up to where we live. Style is all about you.
“I think what Stacey does is, you know, ok fine. But I like rooms to have a lot more fun. They need to be somewhere you can have a laugh and drink gin, not sit there and worry about if you’ve put your knickers away properly!”
