There’s nothing better than getting out of the shower or bath and wrapping up in a warm, soft towel. This is one of the best things about being at a spa or a hotel – the towels are so clean and fluffy, which isn’t always the case at home.
If you haven’t got a tumble dryer or you live in a hard water area like many people do, it can make your towels pretty hard and scratchy. This is never ideal, and really takes away from that comforting vibe. Thankfully, one cleaning expert with a loyal army of followers on social media has lifted the lid on the best way to keep them soft and fluffy.

If your towels are feeling a bit rough or stiff, then Laura says this could be down the hard water build-up on the towel’s fibres.
But there’s a simple solution – all you need to do is soak them in a bicarbonate of soda solution overnight. Simply add a few cups of baking soda into a bucket or even your bath, fill with warm water and allow it to work its magic overnight with minimal effort.
Laura says bicarbonate of soda will help to ‘restore’ your towels, leaving them soft once more.

And if it’s keeping your towels white that you struggle with, you’ll be happy to know that bicarbonate of soda also works great for this too.
Laura said: “You can also soak whites in bicarbonate of soda to help maintain the brightness or adding white vinegar to the wash to boost your laundry detergent.”
However, she says the ‘best’ way to whiten your clothes doesn’t involve any expensive cleaning products at all.
She added: “The best way to keep white clothes bright and white naturally is by drying them outdoors in the sunshine – the UV rays are a fantastic natural whitener.
“Always wash whites separately so that they don’t become dull and grey.”
