broke records on Friday (March 14) after offering up an eye-watering prize sum during a special celebrity edition of the show. West Ham footballer Carlton Cole joined a myriad of celebs all vying to win money for their chosen charities against chasers Anne Hegerty, Shaun Wallace, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis. After Cole successfully answered his five cash builder questions correctly, he was offered the chance to go up against all five chasers.
To both his and host ’s shock, the top offer came in at a whopping £500k, a record for the popular quiz series. In fact, all the offers on the board were impressive, ranging from £5k, £25k, £50k, £100k and finally, £500k, each offering up a different amount of chasers and a higher or lower time limit. Despite an impressive performance, Cole opted for the £25k round to raise money for West Ham United Foundation which fights against knife crime and poverty.

Sadly, he stumble on his answers and was unable to beat the chasers, going home with just £1k. Steps star Claire Richards also joined the fold hoping to raise money for Marie Curie cancer care.
Fans were blown away by her performance as she managed to beat the chasers with just one second to spare. Boldly choosing to fight for £15l, the star was seen crying tears of happiness over her big win and dubbed it “a dream come true”.
Fans congratulated the star online, gushing: “Well done She was brave Didn’t think she’d do it”. Another penned: “1 second she won thats tremendous effort” and “@_ClaireRichards
congratulations you were absolutely brilliant. I was screaming at the TV #beatthechasers girl power.”
The highest offer ever won on the show was aired last month when hairdresser Jamie, from London took home a whopping £100k.

The hairdresser had played an impressive cash builder round and triggered an applause from the audience when he made the decision to gamble and go for the huge £100,000 offer.
“I think I can beat five chasers,” Jamie said to host Bradley Walsh before he went head to head with them.
He had 60 seconds while the Chasers had 39 seconds on the clock and Jamie managed to win with eight seconds remaining.
Bradley asked Jamie his final question before the timer ran out on the Chasers, ‘Comet and fantail are varieties of what pet fish?’
To which he correctly responded: ‘Goldfish.’
Viewers took to social media to share their amazement and to congratulate Jamie on the impressive win.
