According to Lynne Lambourne, a sustainability ambassador for Gardena, “you can bring your back to life” if you think the poor is dying. ” typically bloom in early spring,” said Lynne, “bringing a touch of nature to your indoor space.” To encourage “long-lasting” blooms that can last for “months”, Lynne shared her top three plant care tips.
“After your orchid flowers have fallen, cut off three inches of the stem,” advised Lynne. “This will allow the production of another stem. If no shoot appears and the original stem turns straw-coloured, remove it at the base. The plant should eventually produce a new, strong flower spike.”

In caring for an orchid, it’s critical not to overwater the delicate houseplant.
“Overwatering is a consistent cause of orchids dying,” Lynne cautioned. “Ensuring the water drains from the bottom of the plant pot is essential to avoid drowning the plant.”
Another key factor is keeping the orchid warm, as the houseplant thrives in bright, but indirect sunlight.
“Place your orchid in an east- or west-facing window to maximise light absorption,” advised Lynne.

Do avoid placing an orchid in direct sunlight, or else you risk the leaves becoming burned.
“The plant appreciates high humidity,” added Lynne. “So placing your orchid on a tray of moist pebbles means the roots can absorb moisture from the atmosphere.”
The final tip is to move the orchid to a colder location at night to encourage pretty blooms.
“The orchid enters its rebloom cycle once the new leaf is fully grown,” said Lynne. “At night, move it to a colder location.”
Lynne explained: “This drop in temperature is critical for nudging the plant into flowering.
“In the winter time, this can often be achieved by moving the plant slightly closer to a window. At other times of the year, cold stimulation can be achieved by taking your plant outside for a few nights.”
