Death in Paradise airs on BBC One and while the new series welcomes Don Gilet as Detective Mervin Wilson, fans have been reminiscing over their favourite characters from the past.
Fidel Best was part of the original Honoré Police force, having been a part of the series since the very first episode. He was the youngest investigator on the team and needed to prove he had earned his place.
His wife Juliette gave birth to their daughter Rosie, and after becoming a dad, Fidel was keen to work even harder to provide for his family. He respected those above him and was keen to one day follow in their footsteps.
It was this mindset that led to a career move that would mark the start of his new life away from the series. Determined to work his way up the ranks, he was encouraged to take his Sergeant exams and passed with flying colours.
He took on more responsibility at the Saint Marie station, but started to feel as though he needed to venture away from the island to explore new opportunities.

He left the series in season four, when he announced he would be working at the police force on neighbouring island, St Lucia.
While actor Gary never went into detail about why he left, his co-star Kris Marshall suggested he simply wanted to “move on”.
He told Digital Spy: “It wasn’t a shock. I understand where he is coming from. I was just the same when I was younger. He wants to move on.”
Gary went on to star in Bluestone 42, The Deuce and the film 21 Bridges.
