Death in Paradise finale delayed in huge BBC scheduling shake-up

’s hit sun-soaked murder mystery series, , will be on screens longer than anticipated as the drama has officially been pushed back in schedule. As a result, fans will be forced to wait in suspense for a short while longer for the eagerly awaited conclusion.

This comes as the Death in Paradise finale will be delayed by one week to make room for ’s fundraising programme, Comic Relief. Ahead of the finale, season 14 introduced Saint Marie’s newest detective, DI Mervin Wilson (played by Don Gilet) who arrived on the island with a mystery involving his estranged and presumed-dead mother, Dorna (Judith Jacob). However, he wasn’t the only one facing uncertainty. Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) also faced job insecurity from a younger colleague who threatened to replace him.

Despite the delay, fans will still be able to enjoy a dose of the Death in Paradise universe for Red Nose Day, as the spin-off Beyond Paradise is set to cross over with Lee Mack’s sitcom Not Going Out.

The special will see a one-of-a-kind crossover as the characters from both shows will collide.

Sally Bretton, who is an integral cast member of both the hit shows, will be appearing in the special alongside her on-screen partners, Lee Mack and Beyond Paradise’s Kris Marshall.

Ahead of the episode, Marshall, who stars as Detective Humphrey Goodman, shared his excitement and said: “It’s always a delight to be able to combine the joys of comedy with the ability to help the many worthwhile charities that Comic Relief supports.”

As for the season 14 finale, the released an insightful synopsis, teasing: “Just as he is about to fly home, Mervin finds himself at the centre of a murder investigation when a body is discovered in his shack.

“While he professes his innocence, the team is perplexed with the circumstances – namely how the victim ended up inside a locked building with no sign of forced entry.

“The woman’s identity remains elusive until they discover she was volunteering at a local turtle conservation charity.

“Meanwhile, Selwyn delivers some personal news to Mervin that turns everything on its head.”
