“Let me save your house from these horrendous interior design trends you most likely have fallen for, as an interior designer of 15 years,” she wrote at the start of her post before sharing seven common trends she thinks should be avoided.

Inset sinks

“There’s no excuse for having an inset stainless steel sink in 2025. Even with a low budget, you can get an under mount sink,” she argued.

When asked about the differences between these two types of sinks, one user clarified: “Inset sit on top. undermont sit under with a bit of the counter sitting over the sink and are a good place for bacteria to grow.”

Another person argued: “You can’t have an undermounted sink with laminate worktops, it would look awful.”

No entryway storage

Next on her list, Charotte explained that people often overlook the need for storage solution in the entryways.

“No proper entryway storage is a huge mistake people make, how are guests supposed to hang their coats and put their shoes?” she asked. “Two words, hooks and storage.”

TV too high

“Your TV is likely placed way too high,” Charlotte then said.

Having your TV placed too high can lead to chronic pain, especially in your shoulder, a chiropractor told the explaning that it’s often caused from repetitive stress on the body and not sitting ergonomically correct.

To fix this mistake, Charlotte explained: “Sit on your sofa and measure eye level from the floor (average 100cm) The lower half or ⅕ of the TV should be below that point.”

Shower stools

Moving on to bathrooms, Charlotte said: “Shower stools ruin your whole aesthetic. Plus you don’t even use it on a day to day basis. It only works on Pinterest pics. Get rid of it.”

Avoid ‘cutesy’ interior

If you’re looking for home renovation inspiration on platforms like Pinterest, chances are that you often come across cute decor detail, such as embroided bedding. No matter how cute it might be, Charlotte argues people to stay far away from it.

“Cute” things like having your initials embroidered on your pillows isn’t classy or elegant. Get rid of it,” she said. “Rather invest in quality materials and luxury brands.”

Terrible bathroom lighting

While having a good ambiance lighting in your bathroom might seem like a good option, Charlotte says it’s not enough and to make sure you have a good celing light.

“Small strips of light on the sides of the mirror is nowhere near enough,” she said. “Install powerful beams above you and on all sides of the mirror.”

Using the ‘wrong’ shower heads

Lastly, no matter how nice you make your shower, Charlotte argues it all comes down to having the right showerhead.

Depending on your location, Charlotte argued that the water in your shower could negatively affect your skin and your hair. To combat this, she went on to explain that she always gets her clients a filtered shower head, which she argues help make your skin and hair feel healthier.
