Seth Meyers on Thursday skewered a report that Steve Bannon, a far-right former adviser for President Donald Trump, is pondering a run for president in 2028. (Watch the video below.)
“I don’t think the country is ready for a president who’s only been convicted of one felony,” the “Late Night” host cracked.
Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts for falsifying business records to conceal his hush money payment to Stormy Daniels. He basically received no punishment at his sentencing in January.
Bannon, meanwhile, pleaded guilty last month to one felony count for bilking donors in a private attempt to fund the Mexican border wall. A plea deal enabled him to avoid jail time.
Bannon, a nationalist firebrand who hosts the “War Room” podcast, had recently served four months in prison on two misdemeanor counts of contempt of Congress. His refusal of a subpoena to provide documents and testify before a House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot led to the charges.
