Hidden gem BBC marriage thriller ‘as good as Doctor Foster’ has fans captivated

Thriller fans are flocking to watch hidden gem Keeping Faith, the British thriller set in Wales. The drama follows a solicitor as she’s on a mission to find her missing husband.

Three seasons later, the popular series continues to keep viewers gripped as they watch Faith Howells, played by Eve Myles, take on a mission to track down her missing husband after the birth of their child. A mother, solicitor and now self-made detective, Myles breakout role sees her “dominate the screen as she’s “hugely watchable.”

Originally made in the language, with the title Un Bore Mercher, which translates to One Wednesday Morning, it was only after the show’s success that it was brought to other British viewers. A huge Welsh audience tuned in to watch the hit show, making it the most popular show in Wales for over 25 years.

Faith is not only in a relationship with the father of her children, he’s also her business partner in their family-run firm of solicitors. Faith is forced to cut her maternity leave short, and as the truth comes to the surface, she does everything she can to protect her three children, along with her own sanity.

An Observer critic said about Myles: “What gives it its life force is Eve Myles, in surely a (deserved) breakout role to rival that of Suranne Jones in Doctor Foster.” While claims the actor playing Faith “embodies her completely”.

As loved ones begin to ask more questions about Faith’s husband’s sudden disappearance, fingers start to point at her as she delves further into the mystery, determined to find answers. After ransacking her husband’s wardrobe and finding a disguise, her journey only leads her to more evidence that he really has gone from their lives.

dubbed the series as “real and brilliant and Welsh”, while one fan of the series took to to write a rave review. They said: “Absolutely heartbreaking; at the same time, Eve Myles shows so much strength through faith.

“Genuinely wish I could jump through the screen and make most of the characters see sense. The most breathtaking and intense show I have seen in a while. If I could give it ten stars, I would.”

However, it has received some criticism, with picking fault even with its name. It states: “Keeping Faith is an awful name, though. Is that why she is called Faith, so they could do a punny title? What does it even mean?”

“Who is keeping her? Will she forsake the pub for the Anglican church, turn to Him for help in finding him, and so introduce a third meaning?”

While an unhappy audience member couldn’t seem to get past season one, writing: “Biggest load of rubbish I’ve seen all year. The story was really badly written; there were loads of holes, and it was totally unbelievable. I will not be back for series two.”
