BBC The One Show fans brand show ‘awkward’ as Robert De Niro makes appearance

Viewers of The One Show were stunned to see Hollywood legend Robert De Niro make an appearance on the show but some also branded the encounter “awkward”.

Presenters Alex Jones and Clara Amfo welcomed the actor, along with other guests including Debra Messing, Stephen Graham, and Owen Cooper, on the evening of March 13.

Robert’s presence on the show left many fans speechless, with some questioning how the managed to book him. One viewer tweeted: “What the hell, Robert D’Niro on the one show. What is happening!!”

Another fan wondered how much Robert was being paid for his brief appearance, while a third simply expressed their excitement, stating: “What a geezer one of the greatest WOW!!” A fourth viewer praised the show for “upping their game” with the star-studded lineup.

However, as the show progressed, some viewers noted that Robert seemed unenthused about being there. When asked to offer advice to up-and-coming actor Owen, Robert’s response was perceived as monotone.

He said: “Well, I think he’s off to a good start, that’s the main thing.

“And just to keep at it. Keep at it! Do…I mean he’s there. Now it’s common sense, what to do, what not to do. Try to stay out of trouble and all that stuff and you’ll do well. You’ll do well!”

Fans were quick to voice their opinions after noticing the unusual atmosphere in the studio, reports .

On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, a viewer expressed concern: “What’s wrong with Robert de Niro he looks so confused #TheOneShow.”

Echoes of discomfort followed, as one person remarked: “#TheOneShow God that was awkward.”

A similarly disenchanted fan commented: “Bobby seems engaged………..Not! ! #theoneshow”.

Another had a more direct response to the segment featuring the respected actor: “Had to pause Robert De’Niro giving career advice so I can fast forward it, awkward as s**t.”

Actors Robert and Debra graced the programme to discuss their latest cinematic venture, The Alto Knights. This new movie delves into the lives of infamous New York gang leaders Frank Costello and Vito Genovese as they vie for supremacy over the city’s underworld.
