Mum who brags on TikTok about claiming benefits abroad ‘locked up in Thai jail’

A star from Lancashire, renowned for dishing out tips on claiming whilst living abroad, has reportedly been jailed in . Ellis Matthews from Bamber Bridge said she was locked up after police stormed her Pattaya home. The 32-year-old ex-reality TV contestant, who is said to have blown £6 million and appeared on Judge Rinder, boasts over 16,500 followers who tune in to hear how she lives a cushy life on £2,300 a month, thanks to British taxpayers’ cash.

Living in a one-bed bungalow with her son Cairo, three, Matthews regularly flaunts on her @mumontheruninasia account claiming she gets the money by citing “six mental health disorders”. She said in a video: “I am diagnosed with around six mental disorders that without in-house treatment, without me being put into a hospital for a minimum of one year, my prognosis is quite poor therefore I need ongoing treatment costs to be met by the NHS by the taxpayer, thank you very much.”

Matthews revealed that she is currently held in a detention centre in the country, with one image shared on depicting the grim conditions within the facility.

She wrote: “I don’t care about me but please pray for my son.”

She alleges that she was detained for overstaying her visa. According to MailOnline, people who exceed their tourist visa duration in Thailand are subject to an estimated daily fine of £11.40.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for Matthews and has so far raised £155 towards a £1,500 goal.

The fundraiser, organised by Kama Clark, stated: “Keeping it short but will update funds needed to support Mum On the run and Cairo this was suggested by many and myself have taken the choice to set this up without her permission and request of others on .”

The UK Government website indicates that a British citizen may still be eligible for certain benefits even if they travel or relocate overseas, or if they already reside abroad.
