Fans at the Albert Park track quickly spotted the error with the Monegasque driver, whose name was spelt ‘Charles Lecerec’ on his signpost. Then, the mistake was spotted with F1’s Brazilian rookie, ‘Gabriel Bortoletto’. Both slip-ups went viral on social media, much to the misfortune of the event organisers.
The errors were ultimately a minor blip that will be forgotten in the grand context of F1’s 2025 season opener. The popular race in Melbourne was restored to its historic slot as round-one of the calendar after Bahrain enjoyed its turn as the curtain-raiser.
Leclerc and are hoping to compete for both World Championships this year, and the Prancing Horse’s chances have been bolstered by the arrival of , who ended a 12-year stay with in 2024. The Brit , which came after the toughest season of his decorated F1 career.
“There is a huge amount of excitement around the team, of course, with Lewis joining the team,” Leclerc explained ahead of the Australian GP.

“I think that brought a lot of hype around the team, but the good thing is that within the team nobody has been affected by it and we’ve been really focusing on our performance and the way we have to work.
“This is our priority, this is where we should focus and not [on] whatever is being said around the team – that won’t help us. We are just trying to focus on ourselves, we’ve done all the tests we wanted to do, which is positive, but there is still a lot of work to do before the first race.”
