The Vancouver Canucks desperately need their captain back.
The captain has been battling injuries for more than month: First a strained oblique suffered in a game against the Dallas Stars, then an undisclosed lower body injury suffered during his efforts to return to action.
Hughes finally skated with his teammates again this week, sporting a non-contact jersey during Tuesday’s morning skate.
“Good possibility, he could be in,” the coach replied to the query, posed as he stepped away from the podium.
Wednesday’s game is a must-win situation for the Canucks, who are now one point back of the Flames. Calgary has a game in hand.
