Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta joked that a reporter’s question about the Premier League title race was ‘predictable’ just days after storming out of an interview over the same subject. On Sunday, the Spaniard abruptly ended his post-match conversation with Sky Sports after the Gunners stumbled once again in their battle with .
Arteta initially wanted to abort the interview after being asked about whether the lack of a striker has been detrimental to ’s title aspirations. Asked by reporter Patrick Davison to answer one more question, the 42-year-old walked away from the interview area when he was quizzed on the 15-point gap that has now emerged between the north Londoners and .
But he was in a much more jovial mood ahead of ’s Champions League last-16 second leg against PSV, which his side lead 7-1 after a thumping first-leg win in the Netherlands. Reporters risked Arteta’s fury by asking about the Premier League title race again but he responded diplomatically.
The 42-year-old said: “We’re going to carry on fighting to try to win every game, which is the only thing that we can do at the moment, because certainly it doesn’t depend on us.”
He then smiled and joked: “That [question] was very predictable by the way!”
