The UK could be hit by on Thursday further south than London and as far north as the tip of Scotland, as the wintery and bitterly cold conditions return, new have suggesteed. The main focus of the snowfall will be in northern England and southern Scotland, while the deepest snow will likely be in the Scottish Highlands, according to WXCharts radar.

The Home Counties, including Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Hertfordshire, will also see flurries. The frosty downpours will start around 6am on Thursday (March 13) and continue throughout the day. However, the online forecaster predicts snow depth of less than a centimetre everywhere except very high ground.

The weather maps also turn icy blue on Thursday, with bitterly set to engulf much of the UK.

They show the mercury could plunge to lows of below 0C and only begin to recover slightly during the afternoon.

The , however, does not predict snowfall in any southern areas. Nor does it predict snowfall in large areas across the north, as WXCharts does.

According to the national forecaster’s radar, there will be tiny isolated patches where snowfall is possible over the north-east of England.

Slightly larger areas of snow are possible over the Scottish Highlands, but again, the predicted area affected is a lot smaller than on the WXCharts radar.

The weather forecast for Thursday until Saturday states: “Cold over the next few days with a mixture of cloud and sunny spells.

“Scattered showers at time turning wintry, mainly over hills. Overnight frosts with icy stretches in places.”

Southern England and Wales will start the day with cloudy skies and rain, which will soon clear. The rest of the UK can expect sunny spells with scattered showers in the north and east.

Showers will become heavier across Northern Ireland and Scotland as winds strengthen.

Tonight:

The night will bring clear spells and scattered wintry showers across the north with brisk winds. A band of cloud and rain will move south across England and Wales.

It will be cold with a patchy frost.

Wednesday:

Cloud and rain across the south will gradually clear in the morning. Sunny spells and scattered showers across the north and east, with hail and sleet at times.

It will feel cold.
