Where was Au Pair filmed? New thriller series with Hercule Poirot icon comes to Channel 5

New Channel 5 series The Au Pair sees Sir David Suchet return to TV for several years.

The iconic British actor, who played Hercule Poirot in 70 Agatha Christie adaptations over 25 years, will play George, a diabetic father who moves next door to daughter Zoe Dalton (Sally Bretton).

Seamstress Zoe is happily married to successful husband Chris (Kenny Doughty) and they live together with two stepchildren, Amber and Noah, in a stunning countryside home in England.

But when she hires an au pair, Sandrine (Ludmilla Makowski), the young French woman disrupts their peaceful home life and their lives will not be the same again.

The new four-part drama airs on Channel 5 over four nights, with the first episode airing at 9pm on Monday (March 10).

With some stunning scenery and countryside views, many Channel 5 viewers will be wondering where The Au Pair was filmed.

The four-part series was filmed in the Republic of Ireland with Irish co-producers MK1 Studios. While the series is actually set in both France and the English countryside, the series was filmed in a location roughly one hour south of Dublin.

The Irish countryside also doubled for the Cotswolds. The Victorian mansion in the show is the real-life Lis na Carrig, a venue based in Foxrock, an affluent suburb of Dublin.

Outside of filming TV dramas, the venue can be used for events, corporate retreats, birthdays and more.

French and Irish production companies were involved in the making of the show.

Samuel Kissous, CEO of the production company Pernel Media, told “The parts that play in [the picturesque English region known as] the Cotswolds were actually [shot] one hour south of Dublin.

“But I’ve had even British people look at the show and tell me: ‘Wow, the Cotswolds look really pretty.'”

Filming took place in October and November 2023, with former Vera actor Kenny Doughty previously sharing filming on the series was complete in mid-November.

He wrote: “And that is a WRAP on The Au Pair. Thank you to everyone for being so welcoming but huge huge love and appreciation to my fellow actors; Sir David Suchet, Sally Bretton & @ludmillamakowski – what a journey we’ve had!! And thank you Dublin”

Au Pair airs nightly at 9pm on Channel 5, with episodes to be released on streaming service, My5.
