Fans are over the moon about Josh Groban’s version of “Over the Rainbow.”
During his appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on March 7, the singer-songwriter did a rendition of the classic song, originally featured in the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz.”
Originally performed by singer and actor Judy Garland, Groban’s version of “Over the Rainbow” showcased his classical tone and smooth voice, which fans expressed their adornment for online.
“Josh Groban can sing ‘row, row, row your boat’ and make it sound amazing,” one fan wrote under a TikTok video of his performance shared by “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
“Would give up carbs for Josh Groban,” another person jokingly wrote.
“The only singer that gives me goosebumps when he sings! Beautiful Josh as always!” one fan wrote on an Instagram video of the performance.
“You are just PERFECT,” another penned.
Fans were initially hopeful Clarkson would show up during the performance to duet the song with “Your Face” singer. The pair performed together in 2015 during Groban’s PBS special “Josh Groban: Stages Live,” where they sang “All I Ask of You” from the musical “The Phantom of the Opera.”
“I was waiting for Kelly to jump in and sing this song with Josh!! That would’ve been amazing!!” one fan exclaimed on TikTok.
During his visit to “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Groban explained to guest host Wanda Sykes that the song is “terrifying” to perform, but one of his favorites.
“As a singer, a song like that … you think ‘why do I need to be the 5000th person to sing it,” Groban told Sykes, “When you get a great arrangement, and of course, when you have some of the greatest musicians in all of television behind you, it is truly a pleasure.”
Groban, 44, then revealed that a recorded cover of “Over the Rainbow” will be featured on his upcoming album “Gems”, which is set to be released on May 2. He has performed the song multiple times in his career, including a cover for his 2015 album “Stages.”
