The Au Pair is about to air on Channel 5 and it follows a bespoke dressmaker who hires an au pair named Sandrine. While it seemed like a good idea at the time, mysterious accidents start happening shortly after her arrival. The synopsis reads: “After a chaotic day, seamstress Zoe agrees to her husband’s suggestion of bringing in an au pair to help with her elderly father and the step-children. Enter Sandrine, who is capable and composed.
“But as the newcomer settles in, subtle shifts in the family dynamic begin to unfold, setting off a chain of events that puts Zoe in danger.” The series is made up of four episodes, which will air across consecutive days this week. Filming took place in Ireland with Julie Ryan, managing director at MK1 Studios, sharing: “This series, centering around a strong female narrative, promises to captivate and intrigue viewers with its exceptional cast.

George – David Suchet
George is Zoe’s diabetic father who moves in next door and puts pressure on Zoe and her already-hectic life.
He is played by David Suchet, a 78-year-old English actor best known for playing detective Hercule Poirot in Agatha Christie’s Poirot.
He is also known for his roles in The Way We Live Now and Oppenheimer.
The father-of-two is married to Sheila Ferris and he comes from a successful family.
He is the brother of John Suchet, a former national news presenter for Five News, and his maternal grandfather, James Jarché, was a famous Fleet Street photographer.
Zoe – Sally Bretton
Zoe is the matriarch of the series and she is a dressmaker who is struggling to juggle different aspects of her busy life.
She is played by Sally Bretton, an English actress known for her roles in Not Going Out and Beyond Paradise.
The star has also worked as a drama teacher.
Sandrine – Ludmilla Makowski
Sandrine is the mysterious au pair and she is played by Ludmilla Makowski, a French actress, singer and film director.
She is known for playing a young Claire Laurent in the series Lupin.
In 2022, she directed a short film Où les marguerites poussent (“Where Daisies Grow”) in Thouars, Western France.
The following year, she sang as a contestant on the French version of The Voice.

Chris – Kenny Doughty
Chris is Zoe’s successful husband in the series and he is played by Kenny Doughty.
Kenny is a 49-year-old English actor and director, known for his roles in Vera and Stella.
In 2023, he married actress Ashley Jensen. He had been married to actress Caroline Carver but the couple separated in 2017.
Marie – Virginie Ledoyen
Marie is played by Virginie Ledoyen, a 48-year-old French actress whose breakthrough came with A Single Girl in 1995.
She also played the character Cosette in the 2000 French TV miniseries of Les Misérables.
The star has three children.
Amber – Margot Pue
Amber is played by Margot Pue, who has previously had an uncredited role in Heartstopper.
She is studying at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, due to graduate this year.
