Daniel Hastings hasn’t gotten that matching lip tattoo for Taylor Haag yet, but the “Love Is Blind” star did get at least one tattoo to celebrate their marriage.
Daniel and Taylor were the only couple to get married at the end of Season 8, and they’re still going strong after a year of wedded bliss. While appearing on the reunion, which dropped on Netflix on March 9, the newlyweds gave an update on their relationship — and Daniel revealed he had gotten some special ink in his wife’s honor.
The moment occurred when host Nick Lachey reminded Daniel that he said he’d get a lip tattoo if he and Taylor ended up tying the knot. Daniel made the promise after Taylor revealed that she has a Taco Bell lip tattoo.
“It has not happened yet and I can’t believe that that (moment) was left in (the episode). It will be a thing, so stay tuned,” Daniel explained. “But I did get a different tattoo of Taylor, just of her eyes. It’s on my chest.”
Host Vanessa Lachey was eager to see it and Nick Lachey started chanting, “Prove it, prove it!”
Daniel then started unbuttoning his dress shirt and showed the tattoo.
The hosts were thoroughly impressed, and Vanessa Lachey was curious to know what inspired Daniel to get a tattoo of his wife’s eyes.
“The first thing I noticed when the reveal doors opened were her eyes when she was smiling. She has these such unique, kind of squinty (eyes), like one of them is a little squintier than the other,” he said.
Taylor then joked that she has a “lazy eye.”
“It’s not a lazy eye,” he responded.
Daniel went on to tell the story of why he got the tattoo, explaining that the idea came from a selfie the couple took at a sporting event.
“I just saw the picture and was like, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s the most beautiful (woman). I just love that picture.’ And so I cropped it and sent it to my tattoo guy and was like, ‘Hey this is my idea. What do you think?’ And he’s like, ‘I love it. Let’s do it.’ So we did and it hurt real bad,” he said.
Social media users were quick to share their thoughts about the tattoo.
“Daniel got that woman’s eyes tatted on his chest, he’s in LOVE love,” one X user commented.
Another wrote, “Daniel getting a tattoo of Taylor’s eyes…. SOBBING.”
Some viewers did agree that Taylor has “pretty eyes.” However, many social media users weren’t convinced that the tattoo was a great idea.
One X user called it a “nightmare fuel tattoo” if the couple ever breaks up.
Another commented, “I’ve seen a lot of bad tattoos but this is somehow on a whole new level. It looks like came from a fruit roll up.”
Some viewers were surprised by the size of the tattoo.
“Daniel saying he got a tattoo of Taylor’s eyes and it being so much bigger than anyone expected,” one commented.
Either way, the newlyweds are clearly “glowing with love,” as Vanessa Lachey noted during the reunion. Taylor described their first year of marriage as “really great” and called Daniel her “very best friend.”
Meanwhile, Daniel gushed about his wife, who he called “the kindest person.
“I really enjoy being able to experience that every day with how she treats other people, and you know, obviously how she treats me as well,” he said.
