Emmerdale’s Sarah Sugden experienced a shattering revelation in Monday’s episode after believing she was expecting a child.

Having recently taken a pregnancy test following her tumultuous romance with Jacob Gallagher, the results indicated she was pregnant.

After confiding in her grandmother, , Sarah prepared to share the news with Jacob, but he broke up with her on the spot as he was still grieving his mother Leyla Harding’s death in the limousine accident. In Monday’s episode, available on ITV X, Charity accompanied Sarah to the doctor to discuss her pregnancy, where Manpreet Sharma conducted further tests to confirm her pregnancy and estimated due date.

However, in a heart-wrenching twist, Manpreet revealed that Sarah wasn’t pregnant, suggesting that her medication might have affected the test result or it could have been misread.

A crestfallen Sarah confessed: “I’m so young, you know, probably too young to have a baby right? I know the chances of me getting pregnant were always low but I just thought I must have been” to which Manpreet reassured her that she might try again when the time is right.

Sarah, however, snapped: “Time? Oh like I’ve got decades to decide! Sorry, Manpreet, I don’t usually let it get to me but it’s just a lot. I just always hoped I’d have my own little family one day and I’m just going to have to accept maybe I won’t.”

Long-time viewers are aware of Sarah’s medical history and past struggles with her health. Sarah, the daughter of Debbie Dingle and Andy Sugden, has been residing with her grandmother Charity since her parents left the village, reports Leeds Live.

In 2011, it was disclosed that Sarah was battling a rare genetic disease called Fanconi anaemia and required a bone marrow transplant to save her life. Tragically, her health deteriorated rapidly when she also developed leukaemia.

After finding out they weren’t a match for Sarah, Debbie and Andy decided to have another child in the hope that the baby could be a match. Upon falling pregnant, the anxious parents discovered that their baby Jack was a match and doctors were able to perform the transplant for Sarah when he was born.

Sadly, a few years later, Sarah was diagnosed with throat cancer and had to undergo treatment. Her health struggles didn’t stop there, as in recent years Sarah was diagnosed with heart failure due to severe rare side effects from her chemotherapy and she underwent a heart transplant.

To this day, Sarah’s health remains a priority as she continues to take medication and her family is extremely protective of her.
