Sky News interrupted its normal broadcasting service to provide a major update on Pope Francis’ health on Monday morning. The broadcaster’s host, Gareth Barlow, interrupted the regular news programme saying: “A breaking development to bring you from Vatican sources regarding the state of the pope’s health.”
Mr Barlow continued: “The pope, they said, is continuing treatment and physio and oxygen therapy as planned. He is back on high-flow oxygen via nasal cannula following a night on non-invasive mechanical ventilation. The sources say the pope can eat solid food, although when asked if he is actually eating solid food, reportedly there was no answer.”

The Sky News host added the pope “spent time in his armchair this morning and followed his spiritual exercises”, including prayer and reflection.
This comes as the Holy See Press Office said the head of the Catholic Church had a “quiet night”.
The brief statement shared on Monday morning read: “The Pope had a quiet night, and is resting.”
The next medical bulletin is expected to be released this evening. No medical update had been provided on Sunday evening due to the stability of Francis’ clinical condition.
Don’t miss… [REPORT] [REPORT]
Pope Francis has been battling pneumonia and bronchitis for more than three weeks, having been admitted to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome on February 14.
The pope has been far from the public eye since his admission to the hospital, making it the longest period of time he has not been seen by the general public.
Pope Francis is particularly vulnerable to pneumonia as he contracted pleurisy – an inflammation of the lungs – as a young man and had a partial lung removal.
