Judges have advised excluding white people (Image: Getty)
The most basic principle of law in this country which dates back to the days of the Magna Carta is, given the usually arcane and mystifying language surrounding law, mercifully straightforward.
Justice is blind. You will be treated the same in the face of our law irrespective of age, class, colour, faith or any other measure.
So what the hell is the Sentencing Council thinking in sending guidance to judges and magistrates suggesting pre-sentence reports should be considered on everyone except those who are white or Christian! Typically, these reports can lead to lesser sentences, or even community orders.
Is there any better way to sow division? This “Council” is independent from the government and peopled almost exclusively by high ranking current and former judges, some of whom rightly benefit from protection. Do you REALLY think they have any touchstone with our lives as normal folk?

Farewell, Jack Vettriano (Image: PA)
Don’t miss…
So farewell Jack Vettriano, the miner’s son who delighted and confounded art critics alike. His delightful painting, The Singing Butler, cut through the back-slapping pomposity of the art world and sold prints by the truck load.
Born in Fife, Scotland, Vettriano, who has died aged 73, had his work rejected by the Royal Academy and the Scottish Arts Council, but 10 years later it sold for £744,800, still the highest price ever paid for a Scottish painting.
Yet the former head of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art dismissed him as “an indifferent painter.” The public clearly thought differently and his prints have out-sold those by Monet, Van Gogh and Dali.
Which just goes to show: there’s no greater snob on earth that an out-of-touch art critic.

While undoubtedly a brilliant actor, Adrien Brody’s world-beating five minute forty second Oscars’ acceptance speech was self-indulgent, disrespectful tosh. At one point in this endless peroration, he said “No matter where you are in your career, no matter what you’ve accomplished, it can all go away. “
If only he had.
