Motorists are facing a on the after a ‘multi-vehicle crash’ has brought the motorway to a standstill, with queues stretching for miles. The crash was between junctions 16 at Clifton and 17 at Prestwich earlier today (March 7).
Emergency services have rushed to the scene, causing tailbacks all the way to junction 12 for the M62 Eccles Interchange. Drivers have been warned of 45-minute delays.
National Highways North West said: “Traffic has been STOPPED on the #M60 clockwise in #GreaterManchester between J16 (#Pendlebury) and J17 (#Prestwich) due to a multi-vehicle collision.”
They added: “All emergency services are on scene. There’s a 45-minute delay on approach, and congestion is back to J12.”
The incident also caused slowdowns on the opposite carriageway as vehicles slowed down near the crash site. Details regarding the specifics of the collision are still pending, reports .

M60 lanes have reopened but 45 minute delay remains
National Highways posted about 10 minutes ago that all vehicles involved in the collision are now on the hard shoulder and all lanes have re-opened.
It warned that a 45 minute delay remains, with congestion now back to J11, “but this should now ease”.

National Highways posted earlier that traffic has been stopped on the M60 clockwise in Greater Manchester between J16 (Pendlebury) and J17 (Prestwich) due to a “multi-vehicle collision”.
