Domino’s fans are in uproar after the pizza aficionados shared a controversial topping option online – and it wasn’t on a pizza.
is a firm favourite and takeaway venues like Domino’s have amassed a devoted fan base across the country. In the UK, there’s more than 1,300 Domino’s restaurants and, as of January 2025, it operates around 21,000 stores worldwide.
Pizza originated in Naples, between the 16th and mid-18th century and began as flatbreads, before developing into the standard formula of bread topped with tomato, cheese and other toppings. It proved to be a major hit and remains a beloved meal, with no signs of its enduring popularity slowing down. Now, pizza fans can indulge in a slice in many different countries, all over the world.
Though the traditional base ingredients remain pretty similar regardless of where you order pizza from, it is a food that tends to inspire experimentation. Whether you engage in the seemingly never-ending discourse on pineapple’s place on a pizza, or you stick to classics like pepperoni, or you favour the humble yet delicious margherita; everyone has their favourite.
This seems equally true when it comes to takeaway pizza, with independents and chains alike each boasting loyal customer bases. Like many brands, Domino’s utilises social media to maintain a connection with its fans.

In a recent post shared on , the pizza powerhouse shared its take on making the most of Pancake Day. This year, the annual occasion – which is officially named Shrove Tuesday – fell on March 4. Like with pizza, food lovers all have their favourite toppings when it comes to pancakes.
Domino’s offered its unusual approach to by sharing a humorous yet divisive video to its official UK account. In the footage, pancakes could be seen being topped with a layer of Domino’s popular garlic and herb dip. Text over the top of the clip boldly stated: “The only acceptable pancake topping”.
The video was viewed more than 298K times in just one day, and pulled in over 5,000 likes. People were keen to share their thoughts in the comments section.
One person simply referenced a classic and beloved pancake topping: “Lemon n sugar bro”. Domino’s jokingly replied: “never heard of them”.
Another said: “Stick to pizza bro”, while a third commented: “Get out”. But some were impressed with the combination.
One person shared: “Delicious. I eat this every pancake day. Some of you should try this.” Another added: “Watch me eat this whole thing”.
