The family of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was shot and killed on the set of “Rust” in 2021, condemned Alec Baldwin’s new TLC show and have asked him to sit for a deposition in their wrongful death lawsuit against him.
Attorneys for Hutchins’ parents, Olga Solovey and Anatolii Androsovych, and her sister, Svetlana Zemko, filed a notice on March 3, informing Baldwin of their intent to depose him on May 9.
Gloria Allred, John Carpenter, Carlos Hernandez and Alina Vulic, the attorneys representing the family members, said in a statement to NBC News the deposition was scheduled for the Friday before Mother’s Day “because Halyna’s mother needs to hear Mr. Baldwin’s explanation under oath about what led to the death of her daughter.”
“He may be disappointed, but this video is not for his reality show,” the attorneys said. “Instead, it is meant to reveal the truth about Alec Baldwin in the pursuit of Justice for Halyna’s mother, father, and sister which they so rightly deserve.”
Baldwin was working on the set of “Rust” near Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 2021 when he said a prop gun he was holding in his hand accidentally discharged, killing Hutchins and injuring the film’s director, Joel Souza.
Criminal charges against Baldwin were dismissed last year after a judge ruled that prosecutors had buried evidence from the defense, but he faces civil suits from members of Hutchins’ family, as well as her widower, Matthew Hutchins. Baldwin had pleaded not guilty in response to the criminal case.
Baldwin has since starred in the TLC reality TV show “The Baldwins,” which chronicles his life with wife Hilaria Baldwin and their seven children and premiered on Feb. 23.
Attorneys for Hutchins’ family members condemned the show.
“The Baldwin reality show at once celebrates Mr. Baldwin’s joy of being with his children while ignoring the fact that Alec Baldwin took a child away from her parents,” they wrote in the statement. “That is the painful and actual reality with which Halyna’s parents and sister live each and every day.”
Baldwin has never offered condolences to Hutchins’ family members after her death, the attorneys said.
“He never called or tried to contact her parents or sister to say that he was sorry, and to this day he has never taken responsibility for Halyna’s death,” they said.
The first episode of the TLC series does state, “Halyna lost her life in the most unthinkable tragedy, a son lost his mom. We are going to feel and carry this pain forever. This will be a part of our family’s story.”
“Rust” comes up frequently in the TLC series. Alec Baldwin, in the show, speaks about having PTSD following the shooting. Hilaria Baldwin says at another point, “A son lost his mom in the most unthinkable tragedy. This is never something to forget, and we’re trying to parent through it.”
