BBC newsreader reportedly earned a staggering £20,000 in just one day, separate from his salary. The veteran presenter, 60, receives a salary of £310,000 for his roles on News and One’s Mastermind. In addition to his regular jobs on TV, he participates in paid speaking gigs. employees, whose salaries are funded by TV license payers, are required to disclose any additional income they receive from other work, with his external earnings now being disclosed.

Recent figures reveal that in September, Myrie took on several public speaking assignments, significantly boosting his income. According to the , he was paid between £5,000 – £10,000 for hosting the UK Sector Skills Council on September 12, 2024. On the same day, he earned another £5,000 – £10,000 for speaking at the Intermediary Lenders Association.

Later that month, he made the same amount for hosting Highways Magazine and again for hosting the National Communication Awards. He was also paid over £10,000 for hosting the Legal Business Awards in September.

Myrie went ont to earn between £5,000 and £10,000 for speaking at the International Steel Federation and the same fee for speaking at equity firm Trilantic in December. Last year, the broadcaster made headlines after apologising for not disclosing that he earned at least £145,000 from external activities on top of his hefty salary.

Addressing the issue on X, Myrie blamed “administrative issues” for not filing his accounts on its external events register.

He wrote: “An apology – I’ve had several administrative issues, and I didn’t fill out the correct paperwork for some of my external public events, so they haven’t been published until now. I’ve told the I won’t be taking part in any more paid external events in the foreseeable future, beyond a handful of pre-existing commitments, so that this doesn’t happen again. My sincere apologies. Thanks, Clive.”

This statement followed a report from October indicating that Myrie had not declared at least £65,000 received for corporate engagements over the previous year.

The Sunday Times reported allegations that Myrie failed to record his roles as debate chairman at GreenTalks Live by the Isle of Man’s Energy and Sustainability Centre, and as a keynote speaker at ING’s Views From The Top dinner at The Gherkin in London, each supposedly attracting fees exceeding £10,000.

The has stated that employees who have not correctly submitted their accounts have been “reminded of their responsibilities.”

The corporation’s official external events register indicates that an “undertaking an internal review” is underway to “ensure all events in the register are processed, recorded and published correctly going forward”.

They added: “This guidance will remind staff of their obligations and will give consideration to the volume of external events and the value of the fees involved, to ensure the highest standards of impartiality across the organisation.”
