With age comes wisdom, and for Chelsea Handler, 50, that wisdom manifested in the form of learning to love the skin she’s in.

While appearing on an episode of The Jamie Kern Lima Show” podcast released Tuesday, Handler opened up about the unrealistic expectations she had for her body in her 20s.

“I would weigh myself 15 times a day,” the comedian said. “If I weighed a certain amount, I wouldn’t go out that night. I would exercise. I would run for two hours on the beach and then come back and weigh myself to see how much water weight I lost.”

Handler lamented that the time she spent obsessing over her appearance in her youth was time she could never get back.

“I hate that every woman in this world deals with that,” she said before emphasizing how women haven’t really been able to have safe spaces to love their bodies.

“Even though we’re beginning the conversations, it’s going to take another thousand years for girls to understand everyone is different. You all have different parts,” Handler added.

In a recent interview, Handler said that she still cares about how she looks in regard to certain things, but is "much more freer about the fact that I do have cellulite and it’s not shameful."

Though she now has a healthier appreciation for her body, Handler also admitted she’s not entirely free of insecurities, saying, “I still care. I still care about what I look like in a bathing suit.”

“I’m much more freer about the fact that I do have cellulite and it’s not shameful,” Handler continued. “I also take really good care of myself because I want to look my strongest and my healthiest. I want to be powerful. I lift weights because I want to be strong and I want to be able to ski like a badass, you know? I train all the time because I want to be strong for skiing.”
