Job cuts at Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Vancouver office

Entertainment giant has axed the longform Tiana series being developed in Vancouver

Layoffs are coming to the Walt Disney Animation Studios Vancouver office as the production studio moves away from long-form animation.

The main show the Vancouver crew was working on was a Tiana princess series, which was a spinoff from The Princess and the Frog.

A spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter there would be layoffs in the Vancouver studio as a result of this shift in business strategy.

As well as cancelling the Tiana series, the Vancouver studio is also scrapping another feature-length project it was working on.

Pixar, a subsidiary of Disney, opened a Gastown studio in 2010 with a mandate to produce short films based on established Pixar characters. Close to 100 animation workers lost their jobs three years later when Disney shuttered the facility.
