Morrisons has announced a major in-store change to their cafes for the elderly.

The supermarket chain will now offer customers over the age of 60 a breakfast and refillable hot drink for just £5, saving them up to £3.

Morrisons introduced the deal on February 27 in response to feedback from elderly shoppers who said they’d like to stretch their pensions further due to increased financial pressures.

The ‘OAPension-Friendly Breakfast’ deal is available now in all Cafés and includes a sausage, bacon, fried egg, hash brown, Heinz Baked Beans, toast and butter alongside any refillable hot drink.

Chris Strong, Senior Café Buying Manager at Morrisons said: “We know it’s been a cold few months for our loyal senior customers, and with the rising , we wanted to give something back and help their pensions go a little further.

“We know our cafés can be the heart of local communities and nothing beats a full English breakfast, especially when there are savings to be had.

“Whether it’s enjoyed solo, or while meeting up with friends or family, our OAPension-Friendly Breakfast hopes to bring a little extra joy in the coming months.”

To benefit from the discount, customers just need to let a member of staff know they’re over 60 when purchasing the new offer.

According to Morrisons, almost half (49%) of the elderly are cutting back on meeting friends due to financial pressures, motivating them to offer their ‘relaxed and affordable environment for people to meet’.

DON’T MISS [REPORT]

This comes three months after the supermarket chain announced a change to the Morrisons More card, which will give customers even more points and money to spend in-store.

Morrisons is now offering five More Card points on every product sold in-store and online (via the Morrisons website or Amazon groceries)

A spokesman said: “Morrisons is offering five More Card Points on every single product in-store as well as online, in convenience stores and on Amazon from December 2.

“The move means that Morrisons loyalty scheme customers can now earn More Card Points on everything they buy and claim coveted Morrisons Fivers faster.
