A major UK supermarket has made a major change to their meal deal options – but some shoppers are less than enthused by this move. In fact, one shopper said these additions “doesn’t make any sense” as they announced beer – Lucky Saint Unfiltered Lager 0.5% and Corona Cero are now part of meal deal options.
This means that Sainsbury’s will begin selling these -free as part of its lunchtime meal deals alongside their usual sandwich and crisps, replacing the traditional soda options. The meal deal from Sainsbury’s has proved a real hit among shoppers even out ranking and being the most sought-after options when it comes to the UK supermarket meal deal market However, a former shopper spoke to and declared his disdain at this move.

Ged Futter told The Telegraph : “I don’t understand why they’re doing it. It doesn’t make sense.”
Concerns over its potential to promote day time drinking despite the beers containing almost no alcohol were announced by some shoppers.
Futter added:”You’ve got so many cultural norms that you’ve got to get over, and retailers are risk-averse.”
Alcohol-free beers and wines have surged in popularity over the years for a host of obvious reasons including having less calories.

Despite the promotion of Lucky Saint and Corona Cero being added to Sainsbury’s meal deal, beer expert Pete Brown was also confused by the move.
“I always think that the British culture has a very paternalistic attitude to alcohol, like we need to be treated like children,” explained Brown.
“It’s like we can’t be trusted with it, or we’re going to do something bad, and we buy into that.”
Speaking to , a Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We are committed to offering customers choice and have a wide variety of options within our meal deals.
“This includes two alcohol-free beers – Lucky Saint and Corona Cero.
“These are just two of over 300 drink options available in the meal deal offer, including hot drinks and freshly squeezed orange juice from the in-store juicer.”
