A guru has shared a sensible and they ‘wished they’d known sooner’ when it comes to preparation. With stocked with a variety of utensils, making sure they’re thoroughly clean is imperative.
When it comes to dinner time, using a chopping board wouldn’t be out of place. However, a particular type material could be harbouring some hidden germs that could pose a health risk. It’s also important to remember that chopping boards made from different materials are not the same, so they’ll need to be cleaned with appropriate ingredients.

Whether that be plastic, glass, steel, or marble.
However, wooden chopping boards have the potential to store bacteria, meaning they’ll need to be disinfected properly after use.
Chopping boards can also help prevent cross contamination between foods, with professional kitchens using different colour boards to prepare different food products on.
To help combat any unwanted germs, Christy shared how you can easily disinfect your chopping boards with just two natural ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.
All you need is some coarse salt and a lemon. In a recent video, Christy demonstrated just how easy disinfecting can be.

Generously sprinkle – or grind – the salt all over the chopping board.
Then, cut a lemon in half and scrub the salt into the grain of the wood. You should also gently squeeze the lemon to release some of its juice.
Ultimately the salt will dissolve into an abrasive paste, making sure that any bacteria found in scratches are killed.
The lemon can also help to deodorise the chopping board.
After a few minutes, rinse away any residue until hot water, and make sure to remove any lemon pulp.
Make sure the board or surface is then dried properly, and leave to air dry fully.
