star may be celebrating by doing the same thing he does almost every other day – eating pancakes. The 26-year-old discovered a after swapping West Ham for the Gunners in 2023.

Rice has been one of ’s star performers since arriving at the Emirates Stadium in a £105million deal. He has bagged 10 goals and 17 assists in 87 games for the north London giants and has helped keep the team in contention for Premier League honours with his performances in the centre of the pitch. And he has put his energetic displays down to his diet change.

“I have four pancakes before a game – covered in syrup or honey,” Rice told last year. “I swear to God, it’s the best thing.

“When I joined the club, I could see the players eating them and thought to myself, ‘What is going on here?’ But honestly, it’s been a game-changer.

“I don’t understand the science behind it, what’s in them or anything like that, but it gives me such a high energy boost. I think that’s why I’m able to rattle around the pitch so much.

“If we’re playing at 5.30pm, I’ll sometimes have eight pancakes in a day. I’ll have some at breakfast and I’ll have some more at 3.30pm before we play.”

Rice may indulge in an extra helping of pancakes today in honour of Pancake Day as his team prepare to take on PSV in the last-16 of the Champions League tonight. The Gunners will travel to Eindhoven to take on their rivals at the Philips Stadium before hosting PSV in the return leg next Wednesday.

went beyond the last-16 of the Champions League for the first time in 14 years last season as they reached the quarter-finals of the competition. But they bowed out at the hands of Bayern Munich after losing 3-2 on aggregate.

The Gunners have never won the Champions League but reached the final in 2006, where they suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat against Barcelona after goalkeeper Jens Lehmann had been sent off early on.

And ahead of the clash with PSV, boss explained: “It’s a game that obviously brings a different energy – it’s that competition that puts everyone on their toes.

“We’ve done a lot already this season here and now it’s the moment to start to make another strong step in the right direction that we want to. I’m very excited for the game.

“I think in the group stages it was very different, I could see it very open. Now I see it very closed because I just see one opponent which is PSV.”
