Whilst Denza is likely an unfamiliar name to UK motorists, the company was established in May 2010 as the result of a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and BYD.
Their first model, the Denza EV, launched at the end of 2014 and offered particularly good performance for the time – including a range of up to 248 miles per charge and a 184bhp electric motor.
However, the company’s current range of models offers even more impressive figures, helping the brand take on familiar Western companies such as Porsche and Lexus.

Whilst it is currently unknown which Denza models will be available to buyers in Europe, the company sells five types of car in its home market. Of these, perhaps the most interesting is the Z9 – a sleek executive model introduced in 2024.
Featuring five doors and a shooting-brake style estate rear end, the Z9 is equipped with three electric motors that produce up to 952bhp. As a result, the Denza can sprint from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds, yet still cover 391 miles per charge.
In addition to the slick performance figures, the Z9 is particularly well-equipped, featuring a pair of refrigerators, one of which is underneath the rear seat armrest, dual-chamber air suspension, and a 33-sensor driver assistance system.
Another model produced by the brand is the D9 – a luxurious range of minivans that can be bought with four or seven seats and the choice of a plug-in hybrid or fully-electric powertrain.
Competing against models like the Toyota Alphard and Lexus LM, the Denza D9 gives occupants plenty of standard technology, including no fewer than seven infotainment screens located around the vehicle – including on the back of the headrests and inside the armrests.
Despite the model’s bulky proportions, the most powerful version of the D9 will still accelerate from 0-62mph in under seven seconds, with the EV covering up to 373 miles per charge. In China, a new Denza D9 costs consumers 339,800 yuan (£37,415), however UK prices have yet to be confirmed.
