Oscars fans turn off over controversial choice as they demand ‘sort it out ITV’

Furious viewers weren’t happy with ’s coverage of the Academy Awards as Jonathan Ross stepped up to present live from

Jonathan was joined by a studio audience and a whole bunch of celebrities, while he cut live to the red carpet to follow the latest arrivals. But interspersed with loud music, the interviews were slightly drowned out by sound issues, and it didn’t slip under the radar for eagle-eyed fans.

One tweeted: “@ITV you need to sort the Oscars broadcast out! Music is way too loud, can barely hear what they are saying! Cutting is awful and messy as well.” Another said: “The ITV coverage of the Oscars is a mess…”

Another fan echoed: “The ITV Oscars coverage is infuriating me already, Jonathan Ross interrupting the two people LIVE at the Oscars who are giving far more interesting commentary than he could possibly provide.” A fourth posted: “Bold choice to have a live audience for the ITV live #Oscars coverage. They seem very keen now, but how vocal will they be in 5 hours? Will they bring in new people when they flag?”

“What the f*** is up with this ITV Oscars coverage? It’s weird AF,” somebody else said. Another said: “Sorry what’s this? I thought we were watching the Oscars, not some little ITV studio with people yapping.”

Jonathan confirmed the line-up of awards for a “different” Oscars – as well as tributes to the late Gene Hackman, who was found dead alongside his wife Betsy Arakawa and their pet dog last week. The cause of their deaths remains a mystery that could take “three months” to solve.

Amongst those nominated for Best Picture are Conclave, The Substance, A Real Pain and Wicked – with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo set to perform live after their musical success.

Their Wicked co-star Jeff Goldblum has also been spotted on the red carpet, alongside Heartstopper stars Joe Locke and Kit Connor. Cynthia soon turned up to give ITV an interview, embodying her character Elphaba in a bottle green velvet gown with huge sharp shoulders.

Ariana matched her character Glinda in a pastel pink gown, leaving her fellow attendees blown away with her incredible ensemble.
