Brody’s career started at just 13 years old, with early roles in an Off-Broadway play and a PBS TV movie. In 1996, he starred alongside Tupac Shakur and Mickey Rourke in Bullet and later received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for his role in Restaurant.
While he hovered on the edge of stardom throughout the late 90s, it was The Pianist that truly put him on the map.
Despite his fame, over the years Brody has had several near-miss roles in major productions. He was reportedly interested in playing The Joker in The Dark Knight, but the role ultimately went to Heath Ledger.
Around the same time he was also in talks with Paramount to play Spock in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek, but lost out to Zachary Quinto.
But in recent years Brody has continued to push boundaries in the acting world. His 2014 role as Dmitri in Wes Anderson’s Oscar-winning The Grand Budapest Hotel received widespread praise.
