“Coffee grounds are rich in essential nutrients such as nitrogen, which is crucial for healthy foliage. Additionally, they help improve soil structure and drainage, promoting root health.”

Coffee grounds as a good source of nitrogen, which is one of the main nutrients plants need, and will help promote strong healthy growth.

Hydrangeas love coffee grounds as they are slightly acidic and will influence the pH levels of the soil to make it a more ideal environment for your flowers. Having slightly acidic soil is also a natural way to change the colours of hydrangeas as it will make them turn a vibrant blue or purple.

One other big benefit of coffee grounds is that they are known to repel slugs and ants so can help reduce the amount of pests trying to eat your hydrangea.

How to use coffee grounds on hydrangeas

To begin, simply start by collecting used up coffee grounds. If you are a big coffee drinker this should be easy to do but if not try asking local coffee shops for their leftovers.

Spread the coffee grounds onto a baking sheet and let them dry out for at least a day. This helps prevent mould from growing on them and makes sure they have cooled down enough to add to your hydrangeas.

Once the time is up, sprinkle the dried-up coffee grounds evenly around your hydrangea plant or mix them into your compost pile to use on your garden.

It should be noted that you just need a small amount of coffee grounds for them to help boost your hydrangea flowers.

You need to be careful with coffee grounds since they are acidic as if you overfertilise your hydrangeas you can risk burning the roots and damaging the plant rather than helping it.

Simply add one cup of coffee grounds to a hydrangea plant once a month to help your hydrangeas thrive and help enhance their flower production.
