Older drivers above the age of 70 “every three years” to stay on the roads, according to specialists.

Andrew said: “Right now, drivers have to reapply for their license at 70 and then every three years after that. Instead of making them take a full test, it could be more useful to check key things like reaction speed, eyesight, and awareness.
“A better option might be a simple three-yearly ‘driver MOT’ – a quick check-up to keep everyone safe without making older drivers feel like they’re being forced off the road.”
Under current rules, motorists to retain their driving licence and stay on the road.
Motorists simply have to declare any medical conditions to the DVLA when renewing their licence every three years.

These often come at a small cost but can give drivers peace of mind if they are unsure whether or not to give up their licence.
Experts at previously encouraged individuals to consider voluntary testing later on in life.
They explained: “For many drivers, knowing whether or not to renew their licence is an easy decision.
“However, one-to-one driving reviews can offer that extra level of confidence that you’re making the right choice. Some drivers even choose to have an older driver assessment every three years to coincide with their licence renewal dates.”
